Hereditary Hemochromatosis is a genetic disease marked by excessive absorption and accumulation of iron in the body. Candidates for HH donations whose blood will be used for transfusions must meet the usual regulatory criteria for allogeneic blood donors.
To donate in this manner you must bring a prescription from your doctor.
HH prescriptions must have:
Patient name, Diagnosis, Start and end date, Phlebotomy frequency, Hgb/Hct limits set by Physician, Prescription time frame.
